ICC Cricket world cup 2023

Something unusual happened during the match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in World Cup 2023.  Former Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews created history by becoming the first player in international cricket to be 'timed out'.  This happened when he came in to bat after another player was dismissed but the helmet strap gave him trouble and took a long time to get ready.

The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 rules state that the new batsman must be ready to bat within two minutes of the dismissal of the previous player.  If they take too long, they may 'time out'.  In this case, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan asked the umpires to review the situation, and Mathews was indeed 'timed out'.

Mathews was not happy with the decision and left the field throwing his helmet aside in frustration.  This incident reminds us how important it is to adhere to the time limits set by the rules of cricket even in international matches.
