The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially stated that the boundary countdown rule will not be applied in the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in a significant announcement. This decision comes after the memorable ODI World Cup 2019 final. ) saw England emerge champions on the basis of more boundaries in the Super Over tie than New Zealand.
For the 2023 World Cup, tied games will be decided by Super Overs, with subsequent Super Overs provided in the event of further ties. The decision is in line with the recommendations of the ICC Cricket Committee headed by former Indian captain Anil Kumble and subsequently agreed by the Chief Executives Committee (CEC). Both the committees found the Super Over format to be an interesting and attractive way to finish the matches and decided to retain it for all games in both ODI and T20 World Cup.
The eagerly awaited ICC World Cup 2023 is set to begin in India from October 5, promising an unforgettable sporting spectacle for cricket fans."
