In the opening match of the ICC World Cup 2023, the England cricket team crossed a wonderful milestone despite the defeat against New Zealand. In a remarkable feat, all eleven players managed to reach double digit scores during the match. Additionally, the match witnessed another historic moment as two teammates, Dion Conway and Rachin Ravindra, who were making their World Cup debuts, both scored centuries in the same game. Thanks to New Zealand's brilliant performance, defending champions England won by nine wickets while chasing a target of 283 runs.
In England's innings, he got off to a good start after being asked to bat first. However, their progress was halted when Matt Henry dismissed David Mullen for 40 in the eighth over. Jonny Bairstow then scored 33 runs off 35 balls but was caught by Mitchell trying to shoot at extra cover.
Joe Root and Harry Brooke put on a 70-run partnership for the fifth wicket before Jos Buttler was dismissed by Matt Henry for 188. Buttler scored 43 runs off 42 balls which included two fours and two sixes.
Joe Root continued to play an innings of 77 runs off 84 balls which included four fours and a six. As wickets continued to fall, England reached 252-9 in the 46th over. Despite this, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood added valuable 30 runs in the remaining overs to set New Zealand a target of 283.
Matt Henry bowled for New Zealand with figures of 3-48 while Michael Santner and Glenn Phillips took two wickets each.
