Kohli's century came in 119 balls which included 10 fours. Even more astonishing is that he achieved this feat in just 277 innings while Tendulkar took 451 innings to reach his 49th ODI century. The century also marked Kohli's 79th international century overall, bringing him close to Tendulkar's incredible record of 100 centuries in all formats.
In the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, Virat Kohli has been in phenomenal form, scoring two centuries and becoming the second highest run-scorer in the tournament behind South Africa's Quinton de Kock. With an average of over a hundred and a strike rate of around 85, Kohli has made history by scoring more than 500 runs in a single ODI World Cup for the first time in his illustrious career.
Kohli's record century is the highlight of an extraordinary year for the star batsman, during which he scored over 1,000 runs with five centuries while maintaining an average of over 70 and a strike rate of nearly 100. This is the eighth time in Kohli's career that he has scored more than 1000 ODI runs in a single year, surpassing Tendulkar's record of seven.
Kohli's brilliant innings of 101 not out contributed to an unbeaten total of 326-5 in 50 overs. He put on a crucial 134-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer for the third wicket, followed by a 40-run partnership with Indian captain Rohit Sharma. All this on a challenging pitch, setting the stage for an unforgettable moment in cricket history."
