ICC Cricket world cup 2023

Virat Kohli scored his 49th ODI century, and Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets to help India win a big game against South Africa in the 2023 ICC World Cup at the Eden Gardens on a Sunday.

Facing a tough target of 327 runs, South Africa's strong batting line-up collapsed in the 28th over, managing just 83 runs in reply.

South Africa's top scorer was all-rounder Marco Johnson, who scored a cautious 14 runs amid a disappointing performance.  Rasi van der Dusen, David Miller and Temba Boma were the other batsmen to reach double figures with scores of 13 and 11 respectively.

Ravindra Jadeja led India's bowling attack with figures of 5/33, while Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Shami claimed two wickets each.

On his 35th birthday, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 101 runs, equaling Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI centuries.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and batted first to score 40 off 22 balls but was dismissed shortly after by a brilliant catch by South African captain Temba Buama.  His opening partner Shubman Gill went to the pavilion after scoring 23 runs.

Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer then put on a crucial 134-run stand for the third wicket, taking India to 227.  Both batsmen scored half-centuries, Iyer scoring 77 off 87 balls.

Langi Ngidi ended the partnership by dismissing Shreyas Iyer.  Kohli formed a brief partnership with Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, scoring 36 and an unbeaten 41 respectively, taking India to a total of 326-5.

Virat Kohli's unbeaten 101, which came off 121 balls, took him level with Sachin Tendulkar on 49 ODI centuries.  The milestone highlighted his exceptional form of scoring more than 500 runs in the tournament.
