 Pakistan's stunning victory over New Zealand in the 2023 ICC World Cup has been tarnished as the team was banned for a slow over-rate during the match.

      The allegation was made by on-field umpires Paul Wilson and Richard Kettleborough with the support of third umpire Richard Illingworth and fourth umpire Joel Wilson.  The penalty was imposed by Richie Richardson, an official on the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, after it was determined that Babar Azam's side were two overs short of the target when time allowance was taken into account.

      According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct on Players and Player Support Personnel, which at least deals with over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over that  The team is not able to bowl within the allotted time.

      Babur Azam pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanction, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

      This is not the first time that Pakistan has been fined for slow over rate in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, as per the ICC report, Pakistan was also fined for a similar violation against South Africa.  was fined.  A penalty of 20% of the match fee was imposed.

      As for the match, Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman was explosive with 126 runs off 81 balls as New Zealand chased down a huge target of 402 runs.  Thanks to this brilliant performance, Pakistan won a crucial victory by defeating New Zealand by 21 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

      Despite an early setback, when their in-form opener Abdullah Shafiq was dismissed for just 4 runs with just six runs on the board in two overs, Fakhar Zaman's incredible century off just 61 balls turned the tide in Pakistan's favour.

      With this victory, Pakistan secured their fourth win of the tournament and are in contention for the top four position in the standings.  Their fate will be decided in the final group stage match against England on Saturday.
