Sri Lanka is very upset because they didn't do well in the 2023 Cricket World Cup. They even lost a match to India by a huge margin of 302 runs, which was really embarrassing for them. The Sri Lankan team is chasing a target of 358 runs in Mumbai. Was piled up for just 55. The fourth lowest total in World Cup history.
Sri Lanka's sports minister, Roshan Ranasinghe, who has long had problems with the cricket board, called for the board's resignation. He said that the Sri Lankan cricket officials have lost their moral and ethical standing and should voluntarily step down. Local newspapers also expressed their dismay, with some calling for the coaching staff to be fired.
Ranasinghe has appealed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to allow the local cricket board to investigate. He cited a number of complaints, including player disciplinary issues, financial corruption, administrative corruption and allegations of match-fixing.
Sri Lanka have not won the World Cup since their only victory in 1996, and Ranasinghe attributes the drop in standards to the board's actions. Prasanna Ranatunga, another cabinet minister, even described the 1996 victory as a 'curse' that led to a culture of corruption in Sri Lankan cricket.
The World Cup victory boosted the cricket board's financial resources, but it also attracted those with dubious ambitions."
